This is a collection of articles (‘lessons’) and poems that I have written and would like to share with everyone. My Christian faith has grown immeasurably in the last few years by absorbing myself in God’s Word and other complementary readings (Josephus, The Book of Jasher, writings of C.S. Lewis etc.). I was raised as a Church of England (Anglican) and was christened by ‘sprinkling’ as a small baby. I was confirmed into the Anglican denomination following the birth of my first child as I didn’t want to be a hypocrite and promise to raise my children ‘in the faith’ and not be a church going Christian. Several years and a divorce later I met and married my second wife, to whom I owe more than I could ever repay. It was she who led me back to the church. By this time, I was living and working in the USA. We began attending services regularly at a local Church of Christ. My upbringing made it hard for me to adapt to, what I considered to be, an ‘inappropriate’ form of service, especially in the taking of the Sacraments (The Lord’s Supper) in such an informal manner. We moved around the USA until we settled in Texas. It was here that my good friend and preacher, Charles Goodnight, patiently worked with me to eventually see the truth of God’s Word and I was baptized into Christ by him in 2006. With my wife’s continual support and encouragement, I have grown spiritually and with the help and encouragement of my friends and family l have survived several life challenges with, not just my faith intact, but a stronger, deeper faith. Of course all the glory goes to God for His Grace and Love. It was He who placed these wonderful people into my life. If anyone would like to read a good book about why I chose the church of Christ, then I can thoroughly recommend “Muscle and a Shovel” by Michael Shank. It explains things far more eloquently that I can by telling the true story of his own search for a true church. |
